Voguing ist ein Tanzstil, der in den 1960er Jahren in New York (Harlem) von queeren BiPoC und Latinx Personen ins Leben gerufen wurde. Der Stil „Vogue Fem“ bzw. ursprünglich genannt: „FemQueen Performance“, kommt von Schwarzen trans* Frauen. Angelehnt u.a. an dem Mode Magazin „Vogue“ und den Supermodels zu jener Zeit hat sich aus dem
Imitieren der Modelposen mit der Zeit ein Tanz entwickelt, der heute in 3 Stile unterschieden wird, Old
way, New Way und Vogue Fem. Die sogenannte Ballroom Community, die diesen Tanz etabliert hat, erfuhr durch ihre Intersektion BiPoC & queer zweifach Diskriminierung in der cis-heteronormativen Mehrheitsgesellschaft, sodass dieser Tanz eine Form des Widerstands darstellt, aber auch als Ausdruck seines wahren Selbst verstanden werden kann.
In dem Workshop werden wir uns auf den Stil „Vogue Fem“ fokussieren und die 5 Elemente dieses Stils lernen.
Der Workshop ist inklusiv & anfängerfreundlich. Du brauchst kein tänzerisches Vorwissen mitbringen, sondern einfach eine offene Einstellung und die Bereitschaft, über neue Kulturen zu lernen. Komm einfach in der Kleidung, in der du dich wohl fühlst. Meine Empfehlung: lange Hose und/oder Knieschoner für sensible Knie
PS: Ich möchte an dieser Stelle vor allem Leute ermutigen, die von trans* Feindlichkeit betroffen sind, an dem Workshop teilzunehmen. Auch wenn ihr keinerlei Tanzerfahrung habt und dies euer erster Tanz Workshop ist, Voguing ist so viel mehr als nur ein Tanz – ihr werdet es merken! 🙂
Phenix hat das Voguing und die dahinter stehende Ballroom Culture im Jahr 2016 entdeckt und sich schockverliebt. Angefangen ohne tänzerischen Hintergrund nahm sie ihre ersten Workshops in den verschiedenen Voguing Stilen Old Way, New Way und Vogue Fem in Berlin und organisierte ab 2018 auch eigene regelmäßige Voguing Sessions in Leipzig, in denen sie u.a. Ballroom Gäst*innen aus der Berliner Szene nach Leipzig eingeladen hat, um diese Kultur auch vor Ort präsent zu machen. Im Februar 2022 reiste Phenix in die USA und trat offiziell dem International Iconic House of Prodigy in Philadelphia bei.
Als Subkultur ist ihr die Ballroom Community enorm wichtig, da sie einen safer space für sie und ihre Identitäten kreiert, den sie im Alltag nicht hat. Seitdem sie diese Kultur für sich entdeckt hat, durchziehen Voguing/Ballroom und intersektionale Themen ihr Leben und empowern sie und ihre afrodeutsche Identität Tag für Tag.

Voguing is a dance style created in the 1960s in New York (Harlem) by queer BiPoC and Latinx individuals. The style „Vogue Fem“ or originally called: „FemQueen Performance“, comes from Black trans* women. Inspired by the fashion magazine „Vogue“ and the supermodels at that time, the style has developed from the
the imitation of the model poses with the time a dance developed, which is distinguished today in 3 styles, Old
way, New Way and Vogue Fem. The so-called ballroom community that established this dance experienced double discrimination in the cis-heteronormative majority society through its intersection BiPoC & queer, so that this dance represents a form of resistance, but can also be understood as an expression of its true self.
In the workshop we will focus on the style „Vogue Fem“ and learn the 5 elements of this style.
The workshop is inclusive & beginner friendly. You don’t need to bring any prior dance knowledge, just an open mind and willingness to learn about new cultures. Just come in whatever clothes you feel comfortable in. My recommendation: long pants and/or knee pads for sensitive knees.
PS: At this point I would especially like to encourage people who are affected by trans* hostility to attend the workshop. Even if you have no dance experience and this is your first dance workshop, voguing is so much more than just a than just a dance – you will realize it! 🙂
Phenix discovered Voguing and the Ballroom Culture behind it in 2016 and fell in love with it. Starting with no dance background, she took her first workshops in the different voguing styles Old Way, New Way and Vogue Fem in Berlin and from 2018 also organized her own regular voguing sessions in Leipzig, inviting Ballroom guests* from the Berlin scene to Leipzig, among others, to make this culture present locally. In February 2022 Phenix traveled to the USA and officially joined the International Iconic House of Prodigy in Philadelphia.
As a subculture, the ballroom community is hugely important to her because it creates a safer space for her and her identities that she does not have in her everyday life. Since discovering this culture for herself, voguing/ballroom and intersectional issues have permeated her life, empowering her and her Afro-German identity on a daily basis.
